Abu Bakr Shawky, Film Director of Yomeddine

A.B. ShawkyAB Shawky is an Egyptian-Austrian filmmaker. He studied Political Science in Cairo and received an MFA in Film from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. His graduation project from NYU was his debut feature YOMEDDINE, which had its world premiere in the Main Competition of Cannes Film Festival in 2018. The film received the Francois Chalais Award and was Egypt’s official submission for the 91st Academy Awards. In 2018, Shawky was named by Variety as MENA Talent of the Year and was listed by Forbes Magazine among the top five Arab directors on the global stage.

Abu Bakr Shawky will be present Opening Night of the Cascade Festival of African Films, Friday, February 1, for the 6:30 and 9:30 pm screenings of the film, YOMEDDINE, Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd.
